A Great Evening

It was a real privilege to be part of the "In Christ Alone" event last night in Dublin. It featured Keith and Kristyn Getty, who are, in my humble opinion, two of the very best writers and performers of modern hymns and songs of praise.

As Keith explained to the audience of nearly 600 at the O'Reilly Hall, their commitment is to write songs that are faithful to Scripture as well as being useful to church congregations. They certainly achieve that - their songs are on important Biblical themes, with a depth of theology presented in a contemporary way.

As to the event itself, I was part of the choir, which was formed from members of New Irish Arts, a Christian organisation based in the north of Ireland, together with some Dublin locals. Keith and Kristyn performed many of their best known songs together with some that were less well known. The arrangements were excellent, making great use of orchestra, band and choir as well of course as the vocal talents of the Gettys. There was a great mixture of musical styles from the really lively to the very reflective.

The most important thing, as far as I was concerned was that Christ was central to all that went on. Yes, it was a concert, but it was obvious from the Scripture readings, prayers and comments made that the object was to glorify him.

The range of ages of those in the audience spoke volumes, there were those in their teens, or pre teens right up to those who would have, until last week, been entitled to their free medical cards! This says to me that the content of the evening was as it should be, it is really great when the whole church regardless of age is served. God has blessed Keith and Kristyn with a real ability to do this. I thank him for their ministry.
