This is a subject to which I keep returning, but it is one of those things that we know in theory, though often not in practice. The question may reasonably be asked "what do I mean by God being in control?"
There is no doubt from Scripture that God is the Creator of the universe. I am aware that there is much debate, even amongst Christians, as to exactly how he did it, but the reality is that he did. We are not here as a result of random chance.
As Creator, he made human beings as the crowning glory of all that he made. He created us to have a relationship with us. Sadly, though, that was spoiled when sin entered the world in the garden of Eden. What has that to do with God being in control?
Sin entering the world came as no surprise to God. He knew that would happen, and before he created the world he had a plan to rescue humans and bring them back into relationship with him. He was in control of the whole situation.
He sent Jesus into the world to deal with the consequences of sin. That he did by willingly dying on the cross to take the punishment of those who were not in relationship with God. God was in control of all of that.
He is in control of our lives too - he wants that relationship with him that Jesus paid for on the cross. He wants us to trust him completely. If he could be in control of something as massive as the redemption of mankind, he can certainly be in control of my life.
That is going to be a challenge to me in the next few months - our financial situation is going to be less secure, as is the case for many at this time. Annmarie and I can testify that He has always provided whatever we have needed for each day. We need to continue to trust that he will do so even in more difficult financial circumstances.
He is the God who is Creator of all things and in control of Salvation. He can be trusted in the small matter of supplying all that I need. The verse that came up on my home page as Verse of the day yesterday was from Philippians:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4 v 6 - 7 NIV)
